Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Currently more than one billion people, or approximately 15 per cent of the world’s population, live with some form of disability and 80 per cent of those live in developing countries.
International Day of Persons with Disabilities was first proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3. It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
Today’s Pic of the Week, inspired by International Day of Persons with Disabilities, was taken by Kris Wood and features in our touring exhibition Performance. To find out which of our exhibitions will be coming to a venue near you please see our exhibitions page.
