I’ve been fascinated by Nature and Photography since my childhood years in Portugal. I started my photography journey in the days of film, some three decades ago, when I used to borrow my father’s camera, a reliable Nikon SLR. I loved the simplicity of the mechanics and also miss the light weight of the camera body!

My favourite photographic genres are Nature and Monochrome. I am mystified by the secret world of insects and their habitats and have developed a strong interest in macro photography. I am also passionate about conservation and a firm believer that we all have a critical role to play in the preservation of our wonderful planet.

I live in Foxton, a beautiful village in Cambridgeshire.

I am an active member of two fantastic clubs, the Melbourn & District Photo Club and the Cambridge Camera Club.

I am a member of the Royal Photographic Society, having been awarded their Licentiateship (LRPS) in 2019 and Associateship (ARPS) in 2021. I have also received a Credit (CPAGB) from the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain in 2022, their Distinction (DPAGB) in 2023 and have been selected a C Panel judge in the same year.

Hope you enjoy my work.

Camouflage

Samanta Krivec

First Prize

Artist's Comments: Street and abstract photos are close to me... in this shots I take as a challenge to find harmony between shapes, lines and light in context with a human.
Judge's Comments: A striking use of dynamic composition which guides the viewer to the subject using the parallel lines. The creative use of a monochrome conversion in the style of ‘film noire’ is very effective. A very interesting image which was well-seen, well-captured and well-processed

Moored

Peter Coles

Second Prize

Artist's Comments: I began taking photographs when I was a child, now, following retirement I have more time to devote to my great interest. I don't tend to follow any particular genre but am attracted to forms, colours and patterns that present themselves, usually at random.
Judge's Comments: A simple, yet very effective, high-key image which is all about the serenity of the boats in the water. The long parallel lines formed by the masts and their reflections make this an interesting pictorial image.

Deansgate Towers

Michael Houghton

Third Prize

Artist's Comments: Amateur photographer inspired by the minimalist scenes in everyday life. I look for lines, shapes and patterns and love the abstract element of an image. I prefer to look for something that other might not see at first glance.
Judge's Comments: The beautiful colour palette of muted blue tones reflected in the towers is complemented by the sky. The detail in the buildings is great and the image is very well exposed. The complex reflections and additions tones on the left tower add an extra layer of complexity. The converging parallel lines guide the viewer in their journey to the sky!

Into the Woods

Ann Petruckevitch

Commended

Clever semi-abstract interpretation of this woodland. The juxtaposition of the smaller branches onto the larger parallel lines of the trees is quite effective.

Lines to the Shard

Roger Newark

Commended

Effective use of the tracks’ parallel lines to guide the viewer to the Shard which is beautifully framed by the dark parts of the platform. The detail in the sky is exquisite.

U-Turn

Yevhen Samuchenko

Commended

Very interesting viewpoint and composition. Well-seen and captured. There is a conflict between the parallel lines above and the arrow below, but somehow that add interest to this image

Baku 5

Yasser Alaa Mobarak

Commended

Good composition and tonal range. The subject adds scale to the very interesting architectural featuring those interesting wavy parallel lines. The yellow of the subject’s jacket complements the blue of the sky
