Troy Moth "This is the most heartbreaking image I've ever made"

Invisible Horseman, 2017. – This is the most heartbreaking image I’ve ever made. I teared up when shooting it, again when editing it, and on several occasions just thinking about it. I’ve waited nearly a month to post it as I’m still not sure how I feel about it. I do know i’ll never forget this moment, and what happened to that bear afterwards, which I was too stunned to photograph.

As our Wildlife of the World exhibition goes out on tour, we have been focussing on what makes a great wildlife shot. We often turn to Instagram for inspiration and this week we happened upon this photograph by @TroyMoth who captured this amazing image of a crestfallen brown bear sitting forlornly amidst the debris of a landfill site. It’s no wonder that Troy says it’s the most heart-breaking image he has ever made. The emotion that can be portrayed in a single shot can be overpowering.
