National Meteor Watch Day is observed every year on June 30th. Every day there are millions of meteors that pass through the Earth’s atmosphere and on a cloudless night, it may be possible to spot the glow of a falling star. With the advent of digital photography, taking pictures of meteors has become much easier.
Unfortunately we don’t have any images of meteors in our back catalogue but we do have this stunning image of star trails taken by Vadim Shuvarskiy. A star trail is a type of photograph that utilizes long-exposure times to capture the apparent motion of stars in the night sky. This image was entered into our competition As Time Goes By and was awarded first place.
Keep your eye out for any meteors this evening!
