Normal Lenses

Normal lenses are so called because they offer a similar field of view to how we see the world, it looks natural. Normal lenses have a focal length ranging from 50mm-70mm. Above this range are telephotos, below are wide angle lenses. Photographers often find a 35 -85mm zoom lens very useful.

Normal lenses are undramatic but very handy. Their short focal length makes hand holding easier and they are light to carry. They often have a large maximum aperture to separate your subject from the background. They work well with subjects where the distance between the camera and the subject doesn't change, as in portraiture.
