A Unique Image

While considering the Footprints project I was reminded of this image. It was taken on Aug. 23, 1966, and was the first view of Earth taken by a spacecraft from the vicinity of the Moon. The photo was transmitted to Earth by the Lunar Orbiter I and received at the NASA tracking station at Robledo De Chavela near Madrid, Spain. Many believe that this image had a profound effect, it humbled us and gave power to the green movement, it somehow made people realise how fragile our planet was.

The Monster Beneath The Water - A Profound Photo Documentary.

The Monster Beneath the Water is a profound photo documentary on the effect of the BP oil disaster on a small fishing community.


The Pulitzer-Prize winning photographer Melanie Burford traveled to Louisiana soon after the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded and immersed herself in the culture of Delacroix Island, where fishermen were clinging to a way of life that was in jeopardy even before the oil spill headed their way. This is one photographers deep meditation on one area of ecological disaster.
